Their pre-planned destination is a colony on a planet who are awaiting weapons to defend themselves from savage raiders. After delivering the weapons, they find the ship's decrypted files that all of them, bar the youngest, are wanted murderers and thieves, and that they weren't there to help the colonists, but to kill them.

After the disturbing revelation of at least part of their identities, the crew of the Raza, the name of the ship on which the six awake, deal with a claim by the mysterious Ferrous Corp over the colonized mining planet. The crew argues on whether to give the rest of the weapons to the town, and the resultant vote is in favour to, before a fight breaks out between the corporation and the planet's colonists. The ship finds itself deserted in mid-space outside of a supernova, with a damaged coupling that could vapourize the entire ship. The android puts everyone through a truth test to determine the member who tampered with the ship, and they all pass. The android volunteers to go on a spacewalk to fix the ship.

However, when he arrives at the meeting place, he is instead greeted by his former instructor, Akita, who takes him to be arrested. As Four attempts to convince Akita of his innocence, the crew contemplates whether they should let Four go or rescue him, considering that his royalty might make him a useful ally. They eventually decide to save him, and before escaping, Four murders Akita as a message for his brother.
