59 Virginis is a yellow subgiant star in the constellation Virgo. At 57 light years away, it shines at an apparent visual magnitude of 5.19. It is the primary component of a multiple-star system. The star's age is estimated to be 4.3 billion years but is certainly no less than 3.8 billion years and no greater than 4.8 billion years.
It is moving through the Galaxy at a speed of 42 km/s relative to the Sun. Its projected Galactic orbit carries it between 23,300 and 35,100 light years from the center of the Galaxy. It will come closest to the Sun 264,000 years from now when it will brighten to magnitude 4.60 from a distance of 44 light years.
